Vineyard Residence

This rustic contemporary features a 2,200 sf residence and 900 sf garage workshop surrounded by vineyards and views to neighboring valleys, hills, and farms. Situated on the site’s knoll top, a simple rectangular shed is clad in cor-ten corrugated steel panels and rustic stone tile veneer. The entrance is marked by a reverse shed form and contrasting material change. A large window wall opens up the south façade to views and winter sun, with a large cantilevered overhang providing summer shade. A pool and firepit define the patio’s edge while an intimate seating nook offers a protected outdoor space. The efficiency of a structural steel building system allowed for long spans and generous bay spacing, lending clarity and rigor to the overall expression.
