Truckee River Residence

Located on a two-acre property on a west facing hillside above a perennial meadow that is interconnected to the Truckee river, this property backs up to forest service land on two sides.

The program includes 4600sf of conditioned space and 800sf of unconditioned space: including 5 bedrooms, 1 bunkroom and 4.5 baths. A separate family room and large, open concept living/kitchen/dining area complete the program.

Due to its proximity to the Truckee River, permitting was required through both Army Corp of Engineers and Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board .

The overall design of the home was driven by the presence of the Truckee River 100 year floodplain; wetlands and fire access requirements. The property’s form is based on efficient excavation and stepping up the hillside in the location of an existing road cut present on-site. The client requested a more traditional Tahoe aesthetic that uses large sheltering gabled roofs with shed dormers to provide ample head height. The great room and master bedroom are located on the northern edge of the property surrounded by forest service land and views down the river corridor.
