Hartnell College

This project provides a facility for the college’s vocational programs including auto mechanics and building construction trades.

The new climate controlled facility improves the teaching environment and serves to increase enrollment in these programs. It incorporates a contemporary educational model of hands-on learning labs with module-based instruction in both Automotive and Construction Technology. The facility is organized into three principal activity areas: Automotive Technology, Construction Technology, and Distance Learning and Multimedia Services. A welding facility with metallurgy testing capabilities and the latest automated computer-driven technologies in welding and other manufacturing completes the facilities programs. Sustainable approaches include ample day lighting throughout high efficiency HVAC and lighting systems, photo-voltaic solar panels and durable tilt-up concrete construction.

The JKAE team worked closely with our stakeholders to understand the program needs of each department, including helping to facilitate several benchmarking visits to similar facilities. They programmed, designed and helped deliver a fabulous new LEED Silver facility for our Advanced Diesel Technology and Construction Technology programs.
